Atmospheric corrosion is a natural process affecting metals.  Corrosion of a metal usually begins when condensation appears on the surface. The humidity present on the surface of the metal forms an electrolyte which enables the flow of electrons. This process causes visible oxidation (rust or tarnishing).

The ZERUST®, EXCOR® and GARDAC® brands cover a set of protection solutions using non-toxic, recyclable Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI). They passivate the electron flow between the anodic and cathodic areas on the surfaces.

Operating principle

By sublimation, the VCI vapors saturate the atmosphere inside the packaging and condense on all the accessible surfaces of the metallic part, forming a protective ionic film. 

In most situations, even if the packaging seal does not have to be perfect, it is advisable to limit the exchange of air with the surrounding atmosphere.
